Although Asian American Pacific Islanders (AAPIs) have become the fastest-growing racial group in the United States, they are among the least likely to seek mental health care. For a lot of people from AAPI backgrounds, discussing mental health can be difficult. As many AAPIs live in between different cultures – when their identity forces them to constantly navigate between different languages, customs, or cultural ideas – that feeling of psychological safety can be hard to find. So what’s preventing AAPI from seeking mental health care, and how can this problem be addressed? Let’s take a look at the different factors preventing Asian American Pacific Islanders from seeking help.
